Location: Livermore, CA
Appliance: GE gas range and oven, model JGB770SEF1SS, serial TA248485P
Replacement part used: Main electronic oven control board, part number WB27X25327
Customer complaint: The oven was overheating, the displayed temperature was not matching normal operation, and the Broil control did not respond.
Cause: The main control board was not processing the oven controls correctly. Broil did not respond, and the Bake + Broil service-function command could not open the SF calibration menu.
Repair completed: We diagnosed the failed electronic control, replaced main control board WB27X25327, reassembled the range, and tested the oven controls and heating operation.
Result: After the control board replacement, the GE oven operated normally and maintained proper control. The board cost approximately $200-$250, labor was $250, and the total repair was approximately $450-$500.
GE oven overheating diagnosis in Livermore
The customer in Livermore called because the GE oven was running too hot. During diagnosis, the oven showed an incorrect temperature response when Bake was started. Broil also failed to respond from the control panel.
These symptoms needed to be evaluated together. An overheating Bake cycle can sometimes point to calibration or temperature-sensing concerns, but a nonresponsive Broil command and an unavailable service-function menu provided additional evidence of a control problem.
Why temperature calibration did not solve this oven problem
On GE model JGB770SEF1SS, the normal temperature calibration menu is opened while the oven is off by holding Bake and Broil together for about three seconds until SF appears. Pressing Bake again displays the current temperature offset. The Bake temperature can be adjusted by up to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in either direction and saved with Start.
That calibration affects only Bake temperature. It does not repair a Broil function that does not respond. In this case, the control did not register Broil, so the Bake + Broil combination could not open SF. A failed broil igniter would not normally prevent the control from opening this menu, making the button input and electronic control board the primary concern.
GE model and control board information
The appliance data label identified this unit as a GE gas range and oven, model JGB770SEF1SS, serial TA248485P. The replacement electronic control board used for this repair was part number WB27X25327.
Model verification is important before ordering an oven control because similar-looking GE ranges can use different boards, overlays, connectors, and programming. The control-panel overlay alone would not correct a failed electronic button input or control-board logic problem.
Main oven control board replacement
After confirming the control failure, we replaced the main electronic oven control board WB27X25327. The range was reassembled and the controls were tested after installation. Bake temperature control and the oven functions operated normally following the repair.
The board cost approximately $200-$250 and labor was $250, placing the total for this repair at approximately $450-$500. Parts pricing can change, so every estimate should be confirmed using the exact model and required part.
Oven repair in Livermore
If an oven overheats, displays the wrong temperature, ignores control-panel commands, or will not start Bake or Broil, testing should identify whether the cause is calibration, the temperature sensor, igniter, wiring, keypad input, or electronic control.
