Location: San Ramon, CA

Appliance: GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator, model PSI23SCPABS, serial LF406365

Replacement part used: Dual refrigerator water inlet valve assembly. The part number was not visible in the supplied photos.

Customer complaint: Water was leaking from underneath the refrigerator. The customer moved the appliance forward and shut off the water supply before our arrival.

Diagnosis: After restoring the water supply for testing, we immediately found water escaping through a crack in the plastic water inlet valve body.

Cause: The plastic valve housing had failed. The ice-maker water tube at the valve connection had also become brittle and needed to be trimmed back to a sound section before reconnection.

Repair completed: On the scheduled return visit, we replaced the dual water inlet valve, removed the brittle end of the ice-maker tube, reconnected the tubing, cleaned dust from the condenser area, and tested the pressurized water system.

Result: No water leaks were present after the repair. The refrigerator water connections operated normally, and the appliance was returned to service.

GE Profile refrigerator leak diagnosis in San Ramon

A customer in San Ramon requested refrigerator service after finding water underneath the appliance. The customer responded correctly by moving the refrigerator forward and shutting off the household water supply until the source could be inspected.

During diagnosis, we restored the water supply while observing the rear water connections. Water immediately appeared at the plastic inlet valve, confirming that the leak was inside the valve assembly rather than at the braided household supply line.

Cracked refrigerator water inlet valve

The water inlet valve controls water flow to the refrigerator's ice-maker circuit. When the plastic valve body cracks, the connection can leak whenever the supply is pressurized, even if the refrigerator is otherwise cooling normally.

The reliable repair was replacement of the complete dual water inlet valve assembly. The correct valve was selected using the full refrigerator model before the return appointment.

Why the ice-maker water tube needed inspection

The small plastic tube connected to the valve carries water toward the ice maker. On an older refrigerator, the end of this tube can become dry and brittle. Pulling or bending a weakened section can cause it to split during valve replacement.

In this case, there was enough tubing available to cut off the deteriorated end and reconnect a solid section to the new valve. If the remaining tube had been too short, the correct repair would have required replacement of the water tube between the valve and ice maker.

Water valve replacement and condenser cleaning

On the second visit, we removed the rear service cover, disconnected the failed valve and water tubes, installed the replacement valve, and secured the electrical and water connections. The brittle end of the ice-maker tube was trimmed cleanly before it was seated in the new valve.

While the refrigerator was accessible, we also cleaned accumulated dust from the condenser area to improve airflow around the refrigeration components.

Final water leak test
