LG freezer not cooling diagnosis in San Leandro
The customer in San Leandro called because the freezer was no longer freezing food properly. During diagnosis, we confirmed that the temperature inside the refrigerator was too high. At the rear of the appliance, the compressor surface temperature was approximately 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
A compressor running this hot while the cabinet remains warm indicates that the refrigeration system needs immediate diagnosis. In this case, the measurements and system behavior pointed to a sealed-system restriction that was limiting refrigerant circulation.
Compressor and refrigerant information
The compressor label identified an Embraco EGX 80HLC compressor designed for R-134a refrigerant, 115-127V and 60Hz. Recording these details is important before sealed-system service because the refrigerant type, tools, pressure readings, and charging process must match the appliance.
The refrigerator data label identified the appliance as LG model LFC21770ST, serial 807KRLR00024. The exact model number was used to document this San Leandro repair case.
Clearing the sealed-system restriction
We explained the sealed-system diagnosis and repair plan to the customer. After approval, we corrected the restriction and serviced the filter-drier area. A filter-drier helps capture moisture and contaminants in the refrigerant circuit, which is especially important when the system has been opened for repair.
This work requires refrigeration tools and proper handling of pressurized refrigerant. It is not the same as replacing an accessible electrical component and should be performed by a qualified appliance refrigeration technician.
Evacuation and R-134a recharge
After correcting the restriction and completing the sealed-system connections, we evacuated the refrigeration circuit and recharged it with the correct R-134a refrigerant. The service manifold and hoses were used to monitor the system during the procedure.
The complete repair took approximately one and a half hours. After service, the compressor and refrigeration circuit returned to normal operation and the refrigerator began cooling correctly again.
Repair video
This short video shows the same LG refrigerator sealed-system repair and R-134a service completed in San Leandro.
Final result
After the restriction was cleared and the sealed system was recharged, the LG refrigerator and freezer operated normally. The freezer returned to proper cooling, and the customer was happy with the completed repair.
If a freezer is warm while the compressor runs constantly or becomes unusually hot, the cause may be a sealed-system restriction, refrigerant loss, compressor problem, airflow issue, fan failure, or control fault. Accurate diagnosis is necessary before any refrigerant work is performed.
