Thermador microwave sparking diagnosis in Alamo

A customer in Alamo contacted us because a Thermador built-in microwave was sparking and could no longer be used safely. Sparking inside a microwave can be caused by several issues, so the appliance needed to be removed from service and inspected before further operation.

During diagnosis, we identified clear heat damage at the magnetron antenna cap. This is the portion of the magnetron that transfers microwave energy into the waveguide. Because the cap and magnetron assembly were burned, replacing only a cosmetic cavity component would not correct the underlying failure.

Failed Toshiba 2M303H magnetron

The original failed magnetron carries the marking Toshiba 2M303H. The burned antenna cap is visible in the repair photos and confirms that the complete magnetron assembly needed to be replaced.

Built-in microwave removal and magnetron replacement

After the compatible replacement arrived, we returned to the Alamo home and carefully pulled the built-in microwave out of its cabinet opening. The outer covers were removed to reach the high-voltage section and magnetron mounting points.

We removed the failed magnetron, installed the replacement component, restored all electrical connections and shielding, and reassembled the microwave before placing it back into the cabinet.

Replacement magnetron markings

The installed replacement magnetron is marked LG 2M286 and EAS42812914. These are component markings visible on the replacement part; they should not be treated as a universal Thermador service part number. Correct part selection must always be based on the complete appliance model and production information.
